In 1960 J. Hammond & Co was established in Wilmslow by Tony Hammond. The business originally sold Havana Cigars, but just a few years later branched out into drink when Tony was asked to source twenty cases of Dom Perignon. His growing interest in Fine Wines led to the business expanding to supplying Restaurants and Private Clientele throughout the Northwest.
In 1980 the business had grown to the point where it had to move to larger premises which were found in Knutsford and the Company changed its name to Hammonds of Knutsford. The Company continued to grow and in 1993 moved to its current premises and in 2000 the Company changed its status to become a PLC.
Although we are proud to have passed the £ 25 million turnover milestone, Hammonds remains a family business, directed by Jonathan, Tony's son and assisted by his sister, Charlotte.
Hammonds supply an extensive customer base throughout the whole of the UK, which include the On Trade and Off Trade:
On Trade:- Hotels, Bars, Clubs, Restaurants, Golf Clubs and Universities.
Off Trade:- Independent Wine Merchants, Regional Brewers, and Retail Chains.

One of the most comprehensive range of Spirits and Liqueurs. We are often praised for our selection of Whiskies and have over 250 available.
Wines
Our range includes Wines from under £ 3 to over £ 300 per bottle. We offer an exciting range of exclusive Wines, many of which are not available on the High Street. Unlike most Merchants, we source all our Wines direct to our warehouse, thus avoiding costly bond charges and added distribution costs.
Beers and Lagers
A small selection which includes some exclusive award winning Beers, for customers who prefer a point of difference. Check out our very exclusive "Best Beer in the World" - Winner of this title at the World Beer championships, no less than three times.
