History
Hammonds of Knutsford is a wines and spirits merchant, which was founded in 1960 by Tony Hammond. Beginning its roots in Wilmslow, the company was originally called J. Hammond & Co and sold Havana cigars. This all changed when Tony was asked to source twenty cases of Dom Perignon. His growing interest in Fine Wines led the business to expand, supplying spirits and wines to restaurants and private clientele throughout the North West. By 1980, the business had outgrown its original premises and the company moved to Knutsford, aptly changing its name to how it is known today; Hammonds of Knutsford. The company continued to grow and by 1993, Hammonds moved again just up the road to its current premises in Great Warford, Knutsford. In 2000, Hammonds changed its status to become a PLC. Starting as a family business, this is how it remains today.
The business is managed by Tony’s son, Jonathan, and assisted by Jonathan’s sister, Charlotte.
